Assessment:

Throughout the Unit Plan the students were required to do a variety of little tasks.  They made a survey questionnaire, had to perform a skit, and had to make a collage.  There were also a few blog posts, where the students answered a few questions. Each activity was looked at separately, by the teacher and was given a mark.

The teacher would look at the blogs weekly, in order to make sure the students were on the right track.  If they were not then the teacher would let the student know so that they didn't continue blog incorrectly. The students were also given directive about every blog; this allowed them to make sure they had the minimum that was required of them.

For the survey questionnaire, the students were given a checklist. In order to get full marks the students had to make sure they had all the required criteria in their survey.  As for the skit, the students received a rubric.  This allowed them to know exactly what they were going to be graded on, when doing their skit.  For the final project, the collage the students were given a rubric so they knew that they should be creative and use a variety of images. The teacher marked the visual aspects of the collage but also listened to what the student had to say about the collage when they were presenting it; this allowed the students to explain reasons for an image that the teacher may not see by just looking at it.

Overall, the teacher should also take note of who takes part in discussions and how much effort and dedication the students give when doing their work.  All the assessments are found in the individual lessons, except the blog checklist which can be found below.

I choose these forms of assessment so that the students can learn how to express themselves, in a variety of ways, with the use of different technology.  Blogs allows students to write a reflection piece or a point of view, without having too much worrisome, since they can always go back and change their blog if they do not like a sentence or idea.  The skit allows students to express themselves through body language.  No need to write everything out, since it is the body and voice that does all the work. The collage gives the students the opportunity to express themselves through images and colour.  Lastly, the presentation allows students to present ideas that teachers might not see.

Technology is expanding and it's crucial that students get to know how to use all these new and creative technologies.  It is up to the teachers to start embedding these technologies into their lessons.
